VMware brings Suse Linux to newly launched cloud service

Joab Jackson | Aug. 28, 2013
Users of Suse Linux can purchase a fully supported version of the OS directly from VMware by year's end.

Suse and VMware have been working together at least since 2010, when Suse was part of Novell, Rego said. Reportedly, VMware even considered purchasing Suse from Novell in 2010.

That deal never materialized -- Attachmate later purchased Novell and separated Suse from Novell as its own business unit. But Suse Enterprise Server now comes bundled with vSphere virtual machine management console, with SLES' maintenance costs bundled into VMware's support agreement.

VMware vCloud Hybrid Service now runs on a data center located in Las Vegas and, beginning in September, two additional locations, Santa Clara, California, and Sterling, Virginia.
