Take5 Games Asia expands in the region

This industry and Asian market-focused partnership is set to lead Singapore’s gaming scene in the region.

Online social gaming site, Take5 Games Asia, has inked a non-binding MOU (memorandum of understanding) with interactive entertainment operator, IAHGames and online games cloud service provider, Corous360, to operate its platform in the region.

Despite its Asian market-focused partnership, spanning Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, the agreement will, however, restrict the platform operation in mainland China for the next 18 months.

Under this deal, IAHGames will serve as the first sub-operator of Take5 platform while Corous360 will be its official platform operator, by September this year. Take5 aims to debut its gaming platform in Southeast Asia before the end of the year.

"As the first sub-operator of the Take5 platform and with its extensive experience in online and competitive gaming and vast number of registered users, IAHGAmes is well positioned to maximise the Take5 platform and its business across key markets in Asia," said Roland Ong, chief executive of IAHGames.

Yeo Chun Chend, assistant chief executive of the Media Development Authority, said developers in Singapore are set to benefit from new models of monetisation and commercial opportunities arising from this partnership.

Specifically, seminars will be provided to enable game developers to utilise the platform for social game development.

According to Corous360, its cloud infrastructure sets itself apart from others with its industry-focus element, serving only publishers, developers and platform providers.

"We are thus able to optimise our infrastructure and solutions to meet specific needs of these game industry players - who require their games to be online 24 by 7 as any downtime may result in severe loss in revenue," said Winston Koh, chief executive of Corous360.

Besides, its unified payment system also helps to simplify game monetisation through a proprietary payment system and a common virtual currency.

"Corous360 will also help to facilitate the management of game credits and the prize redemption mechanism," said IAHGames' Ong.

The collaboration appears to be a natural progression for IAHGames and Corous360 where they have previously partnered for cloud computing solutions to the gaming industry.

Hal Bame, chief commercial officer of Take5, said this partnership will offer gamers a platform of "groundbreaking tournament structures, social media interaction and liquidity-driven prize pools, allowing players to win large prizes for small stakes."
