The i.luminate two-yearly Business Innovations Forum held in Singapore by SingTel has grown over several years to become the city state's largest ICT conference. On 23 April, Jenny Fong, Managing Director, Hong Kong SingTel, welcomed 800 guests from 18 countries to i.luminate 2013, which is the Hong Kong version of the forum. Fong pointed out that the event was already one of the SAR's largest ICT shows.
The popularity of this outstanding forum is a reflection of the diverse technologies and marketing drive that have made SingTel an Asian powerhouse among ICT vendors. The i.luminate forum's success is built on identifying SingTel with the key industry themes that concern its customers and their CIOs, as the basis for talking about technology and products.
For example, Bill Chang, CEO, Group Enterprise, SingTel, began his presentation by taking the side of CIOs faced by the current economic uncertainties in most markets. "We live in a VUCA world, which is Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous," said Chang. "I grew up in a world in which CIOs were only expected to keep the IT running and support the business. But that's not enough today, and the CIO function is threatened with demotion in the enterprise hierarchy."

CIOs need to exploit 'Information Intelligence' to achieve business productivity and agility. "In future," said Chang, "every CIO should be seen as a Chief Innovation Officer, and every CTO as a Chief Transformation Officer." Chang described how SingTel is emerging as the most high-profile ICT vendor in the Asia Region, operating in 25 regional countries and deeply committed in both India and China.
At i.luminate 2013, SingTel's Business Groups, including Systems Integrator NCS, Enterprise Data and Managed Services (EDMS), and the group's Australian arm, Optus Business, jointly presented their capabilities as one entity under the newly formed Group Enterprise division.
A highlight of SingTel's portfolio is the suite of communications and collaboration solutions offered as Everything-as-a-Service through trusted Cloud based technologies and services. "With a mobile collaboration tools like the OneTouch and the Unified-Communications-as-a-Service," said Chang, "an enterprise's workforce will be fully mobile and empowered to work and collaborate, on-demand, anywhere, anytime, on any device."
In 2012, SingTel was awarded a tender to build and maintain a private cloud for the whole Singapore Government. The cloud features multi-tenancy, on-demand provisioning, and security for government standards. SingTel has also developed a powerful capability to deliver fixed-mobile-cloud convergence to both government and 240,000 local business users.
By 2020, 90 percent of the world population will be living in cities. Chang described a vision of the megatrends triggered by this revolution in education, healthcare, transportation and business.
