Q&A: A case for Managed Cloud Services

Zafar Anjum | Sept. 23, 2013
There has been tremendous demand in private cloud in Asia, especially in China. Managed cloud services offer businesses a variety of technology solutions and reliable cloud services without the hassle of making a significant upfront capital investment, says Bronwyn Hastings, senior vice president, Ecosystem and Channels, SAP Asia Pacific Japan.

The rise of the cloud and big data in Asia brings both challenges and opportunities. Businesses will need the right technology to turn data into intelligence to drive business value. To stay ahead of this trend, SAP is rapidly transforming into a cloud company, and our latest offerings reinforce this.

SAP and HP have just announced a managed cloud service so customers can get SAP Business Suite on SAP HANA and Business Warehouse on SAP HANA as a service. The new offering announced with HP, HP As-a-Service Solution for SAP HANA, is part of SAP's Cloud strategy to offer mission-critical end-to-end managed cloud services to its customers, both directly and through our valued partners.

HP managed services for SAP offer an alternative to businesses' in-house operational planning, implementation, staffing, training, and ongoing operations of SAP applications. With managed solutions for vertical industries from HP and SAP, mid-sized companies can reduce the guesswork and expense of business management technology by obtaining software, services and support through a single point of contact at an affordable monthly cost.

What new challenges do you see in the market in the short to medium term?

Mobile and social are two key drivers for the changing market landscape. It creates challenges to businesses on their ability to capture the huge data and turn it into new insights for business strategy. There needs to be powerful and advanced analytic technologies which are rapid and flexible for use and able to transform the existing legacy system and enhance the processing power. Rather than spending a lot to keep the lights on, having the IT services outsourced is an option for better IT management and driving greater result from the investment.

Predictive analytics is also an emerging solution in the market. Rather than analysing the data from history to review the performance, predictive analytics enables you to build predictive models to discover hidden insights and relationships in your data, from which you can make predictions about future events. This technology helps business to set the best go-to-market strategy with real-time consumer behavior and eventually increase the revenues.

To tackle these new challenges, enterprises need to understand the most effective way to harness the benefits of advanced technologies, such as in-memory computing, by supercharging transactions and analytics that enable them to analyse and make critical decisions in real-time. For instance, HP As-a-Service Solution for SAP HANA provides the best of both worlds - the power of real time and the simplicity of the cloud, allowing companies to lower the total cost of ownership and deploy capacity on demand based on their business requirements.
