ICT solutions vendor, Huawei, has launched SoftCOM -- a Cloud-based systematic future network architecture that leverages the power of SDN to help operators address challenges brought about by accelerated changes in the industry landscape.
It creates an end-to-end Cloud-based approach to carrier networks, enabling networks to be more manageable and scalable as network functions can be defined on-demand and time-to-market of services can be shortened.
SoftCOM leverages software defined networking to create the "cloudisation" of telecoms network architecture.
Huawei said, in a statement, that it believes the solution will be the next quantum leap for the telecoms industry.
"Current network infrastructure designs have not kept pace with ever-growing requirements and telecom operators are struggling to keep up with the rapid network upgrades necessary to support their customers' increasing demand for bandwidth and personalised services," Huawei Technologies carrier network business group chief technological operator, Prof. Sanqi Li, said.
He added that the industry must recognise the need for changes in its approach to managing network architecture, and that these changes should not be made in isolation.
