Malaysia Airlines' cargo division MAB Kargo (MASkargo) has cut over to a cloud-based Unisys Logistics Management System (LMS) for its domestic and international cargo operations.
MASkargo chief executive officer Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi said that all of MASkargo's core system functions from the previous legacy mainframe-based system have been transitioned to Unisys' cloud-based LMS.
The cutover included customisations to integrate with the carrier's automated warehouse system, said Ahmad Luqman. "Due to the nature of our daily operations, we needed a heavy duty system, which was accessible system-wide."
He said MASkargo as the largest ground handling agent in Kuala Lumpur acts as the agent for more than 30 foreign airlines at its Advanced Cargo Centre to accept, process and deliver cargo shipments that are carried on foreign carriers' flights.
MASkargo processes about 1.5 million master and house air waybills per year, he said. "Being a cloud-based system, we will be able to access regular updates and enhancements in the future."

Shawdon said the Internet-based system provided global access in a direct, cost efficient manner.
Featuring a user friendly graphic interface, the system will allow users to make reservations anytime anywhere based on controls built into the system.
He said the Unisys LMS was used by airlines worldwide to manage their air cargo business. The cloud-based delivery model will help airlines to reduce costs compared to running traditional software systems. In addition, enhancements can be deployed each month for all clients and allows members to work collaboratively.
A company statement added that Unisys cargo solutions are used to process about 20 percent of the world's air cargo and are used by many of the world's leading carriers that collaborate via the Unisys Cargo User Group (UCUG). Unisys and UCUG members have worked with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for more than 20 years on initiatives such as e-Freight, Cargo iQ (formerly Cargo 2000) and XML messaging.
