Digital Malaysia: Astro, Grab and Alliance Bank score digital transformation awards from IDC

  According to IDC (International Data Corporation), there are definite signs of rapid adoption of digital transformation (DX) across Malaysian organisations.

One new pulse check is IDC's inaugural Digital Transformation Awards (DXa) cycle, which recently spotlighted three companies: Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad named as the 'Digital Transformer of the Year' for Malaysia while Grab and Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad have been named as the winners for 'Digital Disruptor of the Year' and the 'DX Leader-Omni-Experience Innovation' categories respectively.

All three winners will now compete against other Asia Pacific winners in Singapore, said Pranabesh Nath, research director, IDC Malaysia.

Taking hold of disruption - DX - proactively is a major message from national ICT agency Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). Datuk Yasmin Mahmood, MDEC's chief executive officer, had reaffirmed this key to Digital Malaysia in several interviews with Computerworld Malaysia during the last two years. "The organisations in Malaysia are rapidly adapting digital transformation (DX) to stay competitive in the global market," Nath said.
 
 "In Malaysia, the most progressive organisations with a strong digital mind-set have started to disrupt the landscape in tune with consumers becoming increasingly tech-savvy in the face of borderless competition," he continued.
 
 Behind a buzzword
 
"Our winners for Malaysia have shown that DX is no longer just a buzzword, but a must," said Nath. "Our research shows that more than 90 percent of enterprises in Malaysia now recognise the importance of digital transformation in transitioning to the new digital economy."
 
"Moreover, almost a quarter of the companies are now actively working on digital transformation strategies and projects in Malaysia, based on our latest research," he said.
 
"These research results indicate the awareness and adoption of emerging technologies, which will enable disruptive business models, new revenue streams and operating models is increasingly at an impressive rate," Nath said.

Commenting further on the wins, he explained that the three organisations stand out for their "measurable excellence in their digital transformation (DX) efforts across the three DX masteries and significant efforts to transform or disrupt the market."
 
 These include:

  • Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad named the Digital Transformer of the Year: The Astro Digital Transformation Programme aimed at transforming Astro into a customer centric, digital, cloud and mobile-first, analytics driven organisation.
  • Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad named the DX Leader-Omni-Experience Innovation: Alliance's Cash2Home, a first-in-Malaysia mobile foreign remittance solution uses new technologies to increase customer experience and generate additional revenue
  • Grab named the Digital Disruptor of the Year for the carpooling and ride hailing app that has disrupted the transportation sector
