Dell launches COMPASS computing model for content creators

Dell Create service implemented through three steps for centralised IT environment

Dell has launched a multi-vendor Cloud service for content creators, Dell Create, intended to help large broadcast companies, studios, creative shops and other media and entertainment customers improve content workflows with a centralised IT environment.

The service promises reduced operational costs and increased efficiencies through Dell-managed organisation and implementation.

The deployment process includes three steps:

  1. Dell gains an understanding of the customer's environment and opportunity to improve and modernise, using system integrators and developers to do so.
  2. Dell recommends the best workflow based on customer requirements and goals, which includes a custom framework that integrates appropriate media and entertainment vendors.
  3. Dell develops a recommendation for and helps implement a networked infrastructure.

 

"Dell Create is based on direct customer feedback and the pain points those customers experience in the workflow process," Dell media and entertainment vertical strategist, Chad Andrews, said.

The collaborative multi-vendor platform-as-a-service (COMPASS) computing model therefore aims to allow customers to dedicate more time and focus on the creative process by providing them with a converged hardware and software datacentre model instead of traditional workflow silos.

Offerings available through Dell Create include: Dell Fluid FS for video storage; Dell Wyse thin clients; Dell Services and solutions for hardware orchestration; Dell PowerEdge C Servers for rendering; Dell Precision workstations for content creation; Dell UltraSharp monitors, Dell SonicWall and Dell Quest for security.

"Studios and broadcasters face a transformation challenge that will reward having a centralised, scalable approach for their systems architecture," Ovum media and broadcast lead analyst, Adrian Drury, said. "This will enable them to be operationally agile in the face of a rapidly transforming and increasingly complex and fragmented market."

According to Drury, content creators face a highly fragmented premium video industry composed of "specialist solutions engineered for defined production and distribution workflow processes."
