Outlook for Asian telcos
The cloud environment is ripe in the region for telcos to take advantage of the growth opportunities available. Telcos must also remember that the Asian landscape is big and incredibly diverse. There is currently little regulation to guide how cloud services can and should be deployed for the benefit of end-users. True cloud computing is a global market - it enables data and services to be accessed and deployed in multiple markets at any time and from anywhere.
However, this should not deter any telco considering to expand into cloud offering since the widespread adoption of cloud in the region will ensure a consistent, agreed approach to managing standards of delivery, security, privacy, and reliability emerge soon. Last year, the region as a whole spent close to $10 billion on cloud infrastructure. With telcos entering the fray, the number will likely escalate within the next two to three years.
