Cloud-connected storage and security solutions provider Barracuda Networks (Barracuda) has announced in Malaysia that its Intronis MSP Solutions, which provides backup and data protection solutions for managed service providers (MSPs), will now include Barracuda Essentials for Office 365,
Thiban Darmalingam, regional manager for Barracuda in Malaysia, said that Barracuda Essentials for Office 365, which is a suite of cloud services including email security, archiving, and backup functions, will allow MSPs to deliver protection for customers in Office 365 environments against data loss resulting from targeted email attacks as well as recovery after a data loss event.
"While backup remains a critical part of data protection, MSPs need to take a more holistic approach by also proactively protecting their customers against targeted email threats such as phishing," said Darmalingam.
He said MSPs can provide "vital multi-layered security, archiving, and backup to help their customers prepare for, migrate to, and rely on Office 365 with confidence. The package enhances Microsoft's built-in features with added email security and Advanced Threat Detection."
"By adding Barracuda Essentials for Office 365 to our MSP offering, we are providing our partners with another best-in-class solution that further enables them to securely protect their customers from data loss while improving efficiency, lowering operating costs, and allowing them to focus on their main priorities - delivering customer value and growing their businesses," Darmalingam said.
He added that for MSPs looking to provide their customers with extra layers of protection, Barracuda Essentials for Office 365 can also be combined with Intronis' other data protection solutions.
Enterprise level threat detection
Unveiled earlier this year in Malaysia, Barracuda Essentials for Office 365 has Email Security Service and Advanced Threat Detection (ATD) functions, said Darmalingam. "[This is a] comprehensive and cost-effective way for MSPs to protect their customers using Microsoft's cloud-based productivity suite against a broad range of email-based threats including phishing, zero-day vulnerabilities, malware, and spam."
"For example, Advanced Threat Detection provided an important security layer that scanned email attachments in most commonly used file formats and compared them against a cryptographic hash database," he said. Files of unknown status are neutralised in a sandbox environment within the Barracuda Cloud to observe behaviours, and the results are then pushed into the Barracuda Real Time System to provide protection for all customers. Emails found to contain malicious content are quarantined, and administrators and users can be notified. If no malicious content is found, regular mail processing rules apply.
In addition, customers can archive their emails using policy-based retention and search capabilities in the Essentials for Office 365 suite, Darmalingam said. "This allows MSPs to easily and effectively help customers meet compliance requirements and address eDiscovery requests."
"MSPs can also automate the backup and recovery of Exchange Online emails and attachments, as well as OneDrive for Business files, to protect against data loss, corruption, and accidental deletion," he said, adding that Intronis MSP Solutions will provide data protection for businesses, delivered exclusively through the IT channel.
Darmalingam said Intronis, which was acquired in October 2015 by Barracuda, will allow MSPs "to centrally deploy and manage a broad portfolio of services - protecting business-critical files, folders, email, applications, and servers, locally and in the cloud - through a rebrandable console that integrates with major RMM and PSA tools. MSPs benefit from fixed pricing plans and partner enablement tools that help MSPs accelerate growth and profits."
