A*STAR and IDA to co-develop cloud solutions for local ICT companies

Nurdianah Md Nur | Sept. 12, 2013
The cloud solutions will help enhance the productivity and competitiveness of Singapore’s ICT industry.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) will be collaborating with two members of A*STAR to develop cloud computing-powered technological solutions to benefit local ICT companies. The two members are the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC), and the Data Storage Institute (DSI).

The collaboration seeks to promote and accelerate the use of cloud-based services and technologies to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of local ICT companies. Solutions provided will be powered by IDA's Cloud Computing and Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network infrastructure.

Under the agreement, IDA will identify the companies with relevant needs to adopt cloud-based technological solutions. Companies looking for solutions related to analytics can consult IHPC, whose strengths lie in computational modelling and simulation, and data analysis.

One of IHPC technologies that can be leveraged by local ICT companies is the brand-centric social media analyser, which IHPC is currently working on. The analyser enables customer-facing organisations to monitor, track and analyse near-to-real time social media perceptions about themselves. It also helps identify emerging pertinent social media trends.

As for DSI, it offers solutions involving data protection, real-time computing, and high performance, low cost systems for cloud storage. Solutions include the hybrid drive for large-scale storage, and high performance data systems with the next generation non-volatile memory.
