APJ market mature for cloud computing – study

Veronica C. Silva | Nov. 19, 2012
Respondents plan to expand their businesses despite economic concerns, and cloud computing is part of their expansion strategy.

"This shift highlights the increasing need for CIOs to step in to bridge the gap between business and IT functions," said VMware.

The study also noted a rise in cloud adoption among some countries in the region. Among the countries in the region, Australia remains at the top in cloud computing adoption for the third year in a row as 90 percent of respondents said they have already adopted virtualisation.

But cloud computing is also maturing in China. According to the Index's Cloud Barometer Adoption Trend, there is a shift in adoption from 20 percent last year to 31 percent this year.

According to the same barometer, Singapore and Japan have seen increases in adoption this year - 51 percent from 31 percent in 2011 for Singapore, and 58 percent from 43 percent (2011) for Japan.
