"This shift highlights the increasing need for CIOs to step in to bridge the gap between business and IT functions," said VMware.
The study also noted a rise in cloud adoption among some countries in the region. Among the countries in the region, Australia remains at the top in cloud computing adoption for the third year in a row as 90 percent of respondents said they have already adopted virtualisation.
But cloud computing is also maturing in China. According to the Index's Cloud Barometer Adoption Trend, there is a shift in adoption from 20 percent last year to 31 percent this year.
According to the same barometer, Singapore and Japan have seen increases in adoption this year - 51 percent from 31 percent in 2011 for Singapore, and 58 percent from 43 percent (2011) for Japan.
