Akamai Technologies has opened a new security operations center (SOC) in Bangalore, India and established a strategic cloud services partnership with China Unicom.

The new facility is already operational and will be the second largest Akamai SOC in terms of human resources outside of the United States by the end of December 2015.

The new SOC in Bangalore has added significant bandwidth capacity and 24/7 expertise to the company's extensive global cyber defense network.

This facility will enable Akamai to mitigate cyber attacks originating in Asian countries.

"This latest expansion enhances Akamai's 'follow the sun' strategy for customer service and support," said Sidharth Malik, managing director and vice president, India, Akamai Technologies."Now we have even more security professionals available to help mitigate attacks and keep customer sites and applications available and performing optimally."

Strategic partnership agreement

Akamai has inked a strategic partnership deal with China Unicom's cloud division - CU Cloud.

As per the agreement, CU Cloud will complement its own cloud services for global businesses with Akamai's full suite of media delivery, web performance, and cloud security offerings.

This deal will also strengthen Akamai's China CDN offering to accelerate content from global customers to Chinese consumers.

CU Cloud will also leverage Akamai's CDN technology that will be available for the delivery of its Cloud services.

"We're excited to be partnering with CU Cloud to tap into the fast-growing China cloud and CDN market," said Noam Freedman, senior vice president of Akamai's global networks division. "Akamai sees increased demand for delivering content to Chinese Internet users from global customers. With this strategic partnership, we believe Akamai is best positioned to serve this growing need."
