KUALA LUMPUR, 17 NOVEMBER 2009 Mobile services provider DiGi Telecommunications (DiGi) has extended its mobile Internet service for mobile phones in the Klang Valley, as part of its expansion plan.
DiGi chief executive officer (CEO) Johan Dennelind said the company's move to switch on its Turbo 3G services for mobile phones in Klang Valley came just a few weeks after it had launched the service in Penang and Kota Kinabalu.
The expansion in the Klang Valley to cover 59 per cent of the population to date is ahead of the targeted 44 per cent planned over the next three years, said Dennelind.
The mobile Internet sector will be a strong revenue growth driver in two years, and DiGi is committed to bring quality mobile Internet service to more Malaysians, he said.
We are pleased with the steady progress we have made, he said. Our rollout is measured to provide excellent customer experience. We are ambitious yet realistic in addressing coverage without compromising our quality of service.
Having covered significant areas within the three cities, we now have our eyes set on expanding into new market centres, including Ipoh, Johor Bahru and Kuching next year, he added.
Established in 1995, DiGi is listed on Bursa Malaysia Securities and is part of the global telecommunications provider, Telenor Group.
Jumping onto Internet bandwagon
We now have complete Internet solutions for our customers: on PCs, laptops, mobile phones, smart phones and even wi-fi services, said Dennelind.
He said DiGi has outlined a suite of Internet offerings and promotional packages to make Internet services and devices accessible to more people. These include:
• Internet Unlimited Max 5 for DiGi Prepaid customers, which offers unlimited Internet on the phone for no more than US$1.49 (RM5) a day.
• Internet Unlimited Monthly 58 for DiGi Postpaid, now with promotional packages that provide 3G mobile phones at lower prices or no cost at all. Customers who sign up for any DiGi Postpaid plan together with Internet Unlimited Monthly 58 at US$17.03 (RM58) per month are entitled to purchase a HTC Dual for less than half the retail price, or a Nokia 2730 for free.
Dennelind said the company would balance the number of subscribers it took on in order to maintain the quality of customer experience when accessing the Internet via their mobile device, and also used its own metrics to measure the quality of customer experience.
We believe we started off on the right foot with a winning proposition for broadband which has been very well-received, said Dennelind. We hope to live up to the same expectations as we make our Internet services available through other channels.
