Twitter launches landing page for its own music service.
A music service from the microblogging website is 'coming soon' which is likely to be called Twitter Music. The firm has acquired music-search service We Are Hunted.
We Are Hunted said: "There's no question that Twitter and music go well together. Artists turn to Twitter first to connect with fans, and people share and discover new songs and albums every day. We can't wait to share what we've been working on at Twitter."
"While we are shutting down wearehunted.com, we will continue to create services that will delight you, as part of the Twitter team." it added.
Along with the acquisition, Twitter has launched a new page at music.twitter.com. The site simply has a '#music' hastag, the words 'coming soon' and a sign in button. It's currently being tested by celebrities such as Ryan Seacrest who said: "lovin the app...shows what artists are trending, also has up and coming artists".
We Are Hunted hasn't confirmed what it is working on at Twitter. However, it did confirm that its users will no longer be able to use the service.
Using the We Are Hunted search engine, it seems the Twitter Music app will provide users with artist recommendations. It's also possible that it will allow users to stream music in a rival service to Spotify.
We'll have to wait for the official announcement to see exactly what is in store and whether users will have to pay any fees for it.
According to The Next Web, the service will integrate with Spotify, Rdio, iTunes, Soundcloud, Vevo and YouTube. It will be available as a web app as well as a separate mobile app.
