Platform Equinix makes global collaboration faster for Box customers

An online services company has decided to adapt the platform of data centre Equinix, Inc. to enable their customers to collaborate faster.

Box, which offers online storage services to enable collaborative work, said it chose Platform Equinix for better performance and reliability as their customers access and share data from anywhere across the globe. Equinix said that by adapting the Equinix enterprise-grade platform, Box can increase its infrastructure's performance by 60 percent.

Platform Equinix includes the company's global network of data centres called the International Business Exchange (IBX) and a global marketplace where Box customers can connect with their partners to create a critical business ecosystem.

With Equinix's global infrastructure, Box initially moved its infrastructure into an Equinix Silicon Valley facility and recently added infrastructure in Equinix data centres around the globe including Chicago, Ashburn, Va., Amsterdam, Sydney, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

"The world's top carriers, networks and ISPs are accessible through Equinix IBX data centres throughout the globe. This allows Box to choose the locations and networks they require to achieve these superior performance results and deliver to their customers a better experience," said Chris Sharp, general manager, cloud and content, Equinix.

As part of their online services, Box provides a content-sharing platform for its millions of individual customers and thousands of businesses, including some of the Fortune 500 companies. Equinix said that as Box grows its operations, it can offer its services better with a top-tier data centre platform.

With Platform Equinix, Box was able to distribute its global network of nodes, "which are the mission-critical elements of Box's infrastructure, including the Box Accelerator, which launched in August of 2012."

"With Equinix, we know we'll get consistently high performance and reliability across our data centres. In addition, having our largest customers just a cross connect away helps us forge stronger business relationships," said Stefan Apitz, vice president, operations, Box.  "Other colocation sites give you four walls. Equinix is a partner that cares about our business and helps us connect with a global marketplace of partners and customers."
