According to energy management specialist Schneider Electric, its new physical IT infrastructure solution will offer Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) such benefits as reduced total cost of ownership by 20 percent, reduced energy consumption also by 20 percent, and space optimisation by 30 percent.

The new 'InfraStruxure for Small IT Spaces' solution is an industry-first offering for SMEs in Malaysia to built IT infrastructures in small environments, said APC by Schneider Electric Malaysia vice president John Atherton.

"SMEs across Malaysia all have one key thing on their minds - cost-savings," said Atherton." As they battle the daily rigours of capturing growth opportunities, they want to be assured that their IT infrastructure is supporting them robustly and not weighing them down with high costs and complexities."

"InfraStruxure for Small IT Spaces offers SMEs exactly that - the peace of mind to concentrate on their business. At Schneider Electric, we offer manageable and adaptable solutions that are agile, business-wise and future-driven for small IT environments" he said.

Atherton said the customisable solution offered an affordable path for SMEs to increase cost-efficiencies in their IT operations with benefits leveraged from virtualisation and consolidation opportunities, which accounted for TCO (total cost of ownership) reduction of 20 percent.

 Integrated offering delivers benefits

In addition, the reduction of downtime and extended IT equipment lifespan also helped to reduce waste and emergency shutdowns, which delivered the savings in energy consumption, he said.

Space optimisation of space by up to 30 percent as compared to a traditional set up was derived from an integrated offering that includes UPS [uninterruptible power supply], racks and cooling units from Schneider Electric benefiting end users with single vendor accountability for installation and management, said Atherton.

"To enable easy customisation, Schneider Electric developed a user-friendly design tool for channel partners - Small IT Solution Designer. The design tool allows channel partners to design a tailored solution combining UPS systems, server racks, Power Distribution Units (PDUs), cooling technologies, and software for SMBs [small and medium businesses]," he said, adding that a web portal also included  various solution guides to help and educate customers on how best to solve their challenges.

He said the solution also has a unique management layer called NetBotz Security and Environmental Monitoring solution, comprising CCTV cameras, cabling support, Power over Ethernet [PoE] support and improved industrial design.
