Global ICT provider Dimension Data recently announced a comprehensive set of offerings aimed at helping organisations adopt cloud computing quickly.
Dimension Data is delivering the services through its Managed Cloud Platform (MCP), with the help of Dimension Data CloudControl, a cloud management system for automating provisioning, orchestration, administration and billing.
The comprehensive set of solutions includes consulting services, managed and hosted services, applications, and other "as-a-service" services designed to minimise the organisation's investments in IT infrastructure while helping them reduce the risks involved in transitioning to cloud computing.
Dimension Data differentiates its services from competitors' by focusing on guarantees and its cloud management system. The company also offers support services for requests such as patch management, device configuration and backup. Organisations are also assured that they are in control of their cloud computing implementations through self-service, Web-based administrative interface and by using a common architecture to help organisations connect to any cloud environment.
Dimension Data is giving organisastions more options to implement their shift to cloud computing. The company is offering Computer-as-a-Service (CaaS) where organisations can avail themselves of virtual services and storage in both public and private environments. Those opting for a hosted private cloud environment can also tap into Dimension Data's data centre through the Hosted Private CaaS offering. Another option is to tap into service providers' resources through the Provider CaaS option.
"Our clients realise the transformational potential of cloud computing, whether it's moving into new markets, launching new products, or improving IT efficiency," said Steve Nola, CEO, Cloud Solutions Business Unit, Dimension Data. "They're also aware that migrating to the cloud is complex, with significant implications to their business across operations and IT. Our Cloud Services are designed to help clients reduce cost, move faster and manage risk effectively."
Another differentiator is the MCP, a fully-managed cloud delivery platform hosted within a Dimension Data or client data centre. The MCP includes the cloud infrastructure (servers, storage, networking, virtualisation and operating system software) and Dimension Data CloudControl cloud management system.
Dimension Data CloudControl can be used across public and private cloud environments with a common framework for management. As a single platform for all of Dimension Data's Cloud Services, clients are able to easily move between public cloud, private cloud and hybrid cloud models without having to re-architect and re-integrate the underlying infrastructure, saving time and money.
Given that organisations have different ideas of how to implement their cloud computing, Dimension Data's Cloud Services allow clients to easily move between public cloud, private cloud and hybrid cloud models "without having to re-architect and re-integrate the underlying infrastructure, saving time and money."
Chris Lewis, group vice president international, telecom & networking, IDC said: "Although the adoption of cloud services will grow over the upcoming years, organisations have varying requirements, assets and expertise to throw into the cloud pot. Some organisations want a fully-managed service while others may want to build their own. As companies evolve their cloud thinking, they will aim for a balance between automation and control - inevitably ending up in some form of flexible hybrid cloud solution but, most importantly, without disrupting service or processes."
