According to Malaysian startup Myian, which offers technology training services, it has streamlined its operations by more than 70 percent following the adoption of Dell's single chassis IT services platform Power Edge VRTX, which is designed to integrate servers, storage, networking and IT management.
Myian director Noel Teng said the company needed an infrastructure, which could simulate real world customer situations, and thus offer a complete training experience to its clients across Asia.
"We wanted low costs and high value bundled into just one system," said Teng, adding that after looking at various server rack solutions and hosting service providers, Myian chose the Dell PowerEdge VRTX, an integrated solutions platform featuring Dell PowerEdge M520 server nodes with Intel Xeon processors.
"We liked the modularity of VRTX, as the platform would be able to scale and meet the company's projected requirements, including training enrollment growth. Having one solution to meet all its needs was paramount to its decision-making process," he said.
"The Dell PowerEdge VRTX platform provides us with networking, storage, servers and management all in one compact chassis, and other competitors could not offer anything even close to what VRTX provides us," said Teng.
"Compared to what hosting companies would normally charge for the costs of a rack mount, we were able to save more than 70 percent in operational costs by going with the Dell PowerEdge VRTX system," he said.
Breadth and depth in 30 minutes
"We've accelerated the breadth of our training offering and increased the depth of what our customers are able to experience due to the data center environment that the Dell PowerEdge VRTX solution has enabled us to simulate," said Teng, adding that other benefits included:
- Reduces operational costs by more than 70 percent
- Simplicity of deployment improves IT team productivity
- Faster time-to-market with servers, storage, and networking combined in one solution
- Customer satisfaction increases with higher-quality training by simulating real-world environments
Teng said Myian wanted optimal value from its technical setup, as well as a small server footprint to reduce physical space requirements and a management system with minimal complexity.
"This combination is ideal to help us streamline operational costs and maximise our resources, particularly since we are fully supported by only four employees," he said. "Most importantly, we wanted to be able to use one platform to perform our own research and development, as well as offer technology training and an environment in which customers could run demonstrations."
In addition, deployment was easy, said Teng. "We were expecting hurdles during the setup, yet it took only 30 minutes to set up the PowerEdge VRTX platform, which was a fraction of the time we expected. That's how technology should be."
Business benefits, customer satisfaction
He added business benefits included being able to achieve better customer satisfaction by offering higher-quality training by simulating real-world environments. In the past, it was difficult to simulate data centre environments for customers and provide them with the right platform for testing using only PCs during classroom trainings."
"Customers were just not satisfied with standalone training courses using PCs, but with the Dell PowerEdge VRTX platform, the we are able to extend capabilities and provide an enriching learning environment for customers," said Teng, "We've accelerated the breadth of our training offering and increased the depth of what our customers are able to experience due to the data center environment that the Dell PowerEdge VRTX solution has enabled us to simulate."
As training is hosted for customers with internet connectivity, they can access the courses from any location, he said. "Participants no longer have to travel to a classroom and struggle to learn within the limitations of PC environments in order to build their skills. The training experience is real for our customers, and we are able to meet their robust training needs as our solution is already so powerful. We have a real showcase for Dell technology."
