Asian green IT specialist Basis Bay has forayed into the European green IT market by unveiling its first European office in Amsterdam.

Basis Bay, which has more than 15 years of experience with green IT from the Asia Pacific market, claims it is the first IT solutions provider approaching green IT from a holistic perspective to enter the European IT market.

The company insists its offerings are different from other providers who do claim to be far greener than they actually are and do not practice sustainability with a bigger picture in mind.

"Many organisations are only involved in specific areas of green IT but miss out on the bigger picture," said Dato' Praba Thiagarajah, chief executive officer of Basis Bay.

"There are many simple green IT considerations that can be undertaken which could make a significant difference, not only from an environmental point of view, but could provide cost savings as well. We see Green IT not necessarily increasing Opex [operating expenditure] and Capex [capital expenditure]."

Holistic perspective

With a holistic perspective, Basis Bay supplies a variety of green IT solutions and services including green data centres, cloud-based solutions/IaaS, managed support services, enterprise hardware planning and green IT consultancy.

Its holistic approach involves smart procurement, extension of product lifecycle, green data centres, IT infrastructure optimisation and green best practices.

Through smart procurement, Basis Bay makes the right decisions when having to change/upgrade the IT infrastructure due to changing business requirements.

The company focuses on extending product lifecycle in contrast to proprietary vendors that discontinue maintenance services even if the equipment has not reached its true product lifecycle.

Basis Bay also optimises infrastructure efficiently by deploying technologies and processes on shared IT infrastructure such as data centre services and solutions.

Finally, Basis Bay encourages organisations to adopt an internal framework on green best practices to ensure stakeholders are able to benefit as a result of sustainability.
