What is a data scientist? A key data analytics role and a lucrative career

Becoming a data scientist varies depending on industry, but there are common skills, experience, education and training that will give you the leg up in starting your data science career.

Once you’ve earned the necessary education and training, you can start applying to roles that fit your skill level. If you’re already in IT, you can reach out to your network to find open positions or potential job opportunities.

You’ll want to figure out if the job openings in your desired industry and field require a higher education degree, or if certifications and boot camps are enough to satisfy a hiring manager. Spend some time researching job openings to find commonalities in your desired position. From there, you can map out a strategy to becoming a data scientist armed with the education, skills and experience to get the job.
