Uncovering the virtues of virtual desktops

Chris Carroll | July 2, 2014
Can you name a single activity that consumes more IT staff time and presents more potential exposure to enterprise security risks than maintaining desktop and laptop computers across the enterprise? Despite the widespread use of remote desktop management tools, administrators must periodically descend upon offices and cubicles to upgrade or troubleshoot PCs.

Cloud-based Desktop as a Service (DaaS) provides the same benefits but services are provided from an offsite, cloud-based data center. DaaS is an economical, pay-per-user approach that provides virtual desktops and reduces the day-to-day IT responsibilities for end-user computing.

Legacy objections to VDI solutions are no longer relevant in today's modern world of connected users. As the number of connections grows and technology innovates, business leaders need an infrastructure that can keep up with the pace of rapid change. Virtualizing enterprise desktops allows you to reduce the costs of purchasing desktops while reducing time spent maintaining, updating, and troubleshooting PCs and laptops. It also allows the CIO and senior IT management to more efficiently utilize time and energy on more strategic activities to drive business innovation while continuing to uncover the many virtues of virtual desktops.
