The new collaboration portfolio

CIOs talk about the shift from simple sharing of information to true collaboration – across multiple channels, organisations and locations.

Just recently we integrated them onto ReadyCloud Video so anyone can call from any room, or from their laptop, iPad or Android. So now any pane of glass I have -- whether it's a room, smartphone, PC or a tablet -- can support my working style on any given day. Whether I'm on the network or remotely over the Internet, I expect to be able to use those systems.

Just recently we integrated our systems onto ReadyCloud Video so anyone can call from any room, or from their laptop, iPad or Android.

In fact, it's changed the way I work because the ability to talk to my team used to be governed by the availability of the collaboration resource; I had to wait days or weeks to get people together based on room availability. It has brought down barriers.

Craig Columbus, Russell McVeagh: We work with Asian clients and business in Asia is very much based around personal relationships. For example, we have a client in Beijing and they want to meet with one of our senior partners whom they know well. They will only meet with that partner if they can see them face to face; they don't like phone calls. That means flights, time out of the office. That is a huge, but necessary, disruption in order to meet our client's needs.

However, if I can reach out to them and instantly bring up secure video conference where they can see face to face, they can have that personal engagement without necessarily having to have the flight. So when we bridge that cultural gap through collaboration technologies, all of a sudden we have a real business advantage because now we can make decisions much more rapidly.

Real-time collaboration

We use the Wiki style approach to knowledge management, allowing our teams to be self-managing. We're allowing users to comment on posts, edit an update and even create their own article/posts, it allows for instant collaboration. Like any Wiki, it allows you to see who has made changes or commented on an article.

Vaughan Robertson, Beca: The benefit of collaboration tools has been cultural. One of my colleagues described it beautifully: She said the nature of our business is that our experts are "generous with their knowledge". Culturally, the implementation of collaboration tools has allowed us to spread the knowledge, to spread the learning, to intersect mentors and mentees. The culture was there before but this has enabled it in a much wider area.
