Software, cloud to propel video conferencing: LifeSize

Andreas Wienold, International Vice President,LifeSize talked about the emergence of new business models like Video as a service and Cloud which will further drive the video market.

LifeSize helps organisations with the meeting rooms for video conferencing. Is it a different strategy than telepresense rooms by other vendors?
The immersive experience on the bigger screen through our solutions is differentiated from the classic telepresence. We are not in business of building thousands of rooms but we design cost effective and customised rooms and video enable them for the application to be available to everyone.

For LifeSize Icon solution, the user from their interface can change layout which happens through MCU. The 2 button remote (from the earlier multi button) is a significant change to simplify the video conferencing set up in a meeting room. Some does not sound unique but nobody else does like LifeSize does.

Competitive start-ups like Vidyo have disrupted the video conference space with cheaper, software-based solutions. Where does it leave Lifesize?
Millions of companies arrive but the real question is where do they originate from and what is their long term vision. WebEx is an example until video arrived — which was direct and better. Coming from the physical meeting perspective; we are to emulating video on devices for an experience like a meeting room. Vendors need to have the perfect mix of both — hardware and software for an overall seamless experience of video to the end user.

LifeSize UVC allows Microsoft Lync users and traditional video callers to connect anywhere, anytime in large, high quality, multiparty video calls. The large enterprise customers of Lync help us to get the 'foot in the door' opportunity. Alcatel Lucent is another strategic partner wherein UC solution or video at their customer end would be LifeSize.
