Enterprise apps developed by independent software vendors and enterprises are growing quarter over quarter, according to the Good Mobility Index Report for the second and third quarter of 2013.
While the number of mobile app activations rose 42 percent quarter over quarter, total device activations for the quarter rose about 60 percent from the same time last year.
The most rapid growth in enterprise apps is driven by the adoption of custom enterprise applications, at the rate of 52 percent quarter over quarter.
iOS still leads in device activations, but dropped three percent quarter over quarter, to 72 percent in the third quarter. The number of activations for Android increased 30 percent and 27 percent of total activations respectively, in the second and third quarter.

Tablets increase in popularity
Eighty-one percent of applications activated in the third quarter were on tablets indicating them to be the most popular device for mobile app usage.
Document editing captured 56 percent of all activations placing them as the largest single commercial application category.
Android smartphones have increased from 21 percent in the first quarter of 2013 to 27 percent in the third quarter of 2013.
The manufacturing industry showed 32 percent increase in share of iPad activations and recorded significant growth quarter over quarter.
Professional services such as financial services, healthcare and legal jumped nine percent from Q2 to Q3 recording the highest percentage increase in share of device activations.
