Following the implementation of SAP solutions, Institut Jantung Negara (Malaysia's National Heart Institute) has realised new benefits, which included real-time insights into inventory, improved workflow efficiency and readiness to meet the new Malaysia Goods & Services Tax (GST) requirements.
IJN's chief executive officer Dato' Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub said SAP systems partner T-Systems rolled out SAP ERP 6.0 on SAP HANA and SAP Ariba as its GST platform.
Dr Azhari said that previously IJN staff were using many disparate systems to track and manage inventory levels, finances and supply chain elements, which was both time-consuming and resource-draining.
"Most importantly was the fallacy of such procedures, which impacted the accuracy of inventory management and forecasting," he said. "A 360 degree total healthcare solution that was easy to use, integrated, and had the power to provide accurate analysis and real-time insights was needed."
He said that SAP solutions, which were selected following a stringent evaluation, were able to meet IJN requirements, and was also certified by the Royal Malaysia Customs Department.
SAP ERP powered by SAP HANA has helped the integration of transactions and analytics on the HANA in-memory platform, which also allowed instant insights into business processes, said Dr Azhari, adding that has delivered enhanced agility, responsiveness and decision-making for financial planning, inventory management, and procurement.
"One of the biggest issues we faced internally was optimising our inventory. While we strive to allocate our supplies efficiently to ensure we don't run out or have an excessive surplus, this can be challenging. With SAP ERP on SAP HANA, we gain real-time insights into our inventory, which has significantly improved planning and management," said Dr Azhari Yakub.
He said T-Systems completed the SAP ERP implementation within seven months, which helped IJN to effectively meet the GST registration deadline.
Natasha Kwan, Managing Director for T-Systems Asia South (pic above), said: ""The Cloud has matured to become the platform of choice for enterprises as implementation and deployment on the Cloud is so much faster and less complex than on premise."
"Working together with IJN, we were able to quickly map out processes that needed to be fine-tuned and develop a change management plan before conducting the implementation, so that the upgrade was seamless," said Kwan.
She said IJN also selected and completed the implementation of the SAP Ariba Sourcing, Supplier Information and Performance Management as well as Contract Management solutions. This will help the institute be up and running faster with fewer resources-.
