Makassar rides on cloud to boost its local software ecosystem

Nurdianah Md Nur | April 10, 2015
Makassar’s partnership with Microsoft will equip youths in the city with the skills required in a cloud-first, mobile-first world to enable them to be digital entrepreneurs.

Besides that, Makassar is planning to develop mobile apps that will enable it to provide real-time data that helps residents plan their day and improve the ease of communicating and transacting with business and government agencies. "For example, the apps can enable residents to use their mobile phones to check road and traffic conditions and the best route to their desired destinations," explained the Mayor.

The city is also planning to adopt Office 365 to enhance collaboration and improve productivity amongst departments at the Mayor's office. "We are currently working with Microsoft on a potential pilot starting with the Heads of Departments before a widespread implementation of Office 365," said the Mayor.

"All these initiatives will inject vibrancy into Makassar's developing software ecosystem and enable us to streamline operations and introduce more efficient services," concluded the Mayor.
