Interview: Bridging the availability gap

T.C. Seow | July 24, 2014
How organisations can gain a hold over their data storage struggle with proper planning, clear roadmap and the right tools to do the job.

Q: Business continuity and disaster recovery are two areas that organisations often don't pay enough attention to in relation to data storage, especially addressing the shrinking "backup window". How can they meet this backup requirement without causing major business disruption?

For many organisations I see the backup window disappearing, not just shrinking. At Veeam we have worked hard to ensure that the backup process has minimal impact on business operations. Veeam recently announced closer ties with our hardware partners at NetApp, HP and EMC to allow for faster backups leveraging the underlying storage while remaining agentless. Agents often require a significant management and recovery overhead, not to mention additional licensing costs. Agentless solutions have much less overall impact on business-as-usual operations. Selecting the right tool for the platform is the key consideration for bridging the availability gap.
