IBM Watson adds hybrid cloud developer tools

Thor Olavsrud | May 8, 2015
Watson Explorer helps developers build hybrid cloud cognitive applications using data sets resident in a mix of on-premises, public and private cloud environments.

The HIPAA-enabled Watson Health Cloud allows health data to be anonymized, shared and combined with this dynamic and constantly growing aggregated view of clinical, research and social health data.

Apple, for example, is working with IBM Watson Health Cloud to provide a secure cloud platform and analytics for its HealthKit and ResearchKit, protecting health data entered by customers in iOS apps while providing the data to medical researchers. Johnson & Johnson has turned to IBM Health Cloud to create intelligent coaching systems centered on preoperative and postoperative patient care, including joint replacement and spinal surgery. It also plans to launch new health apps targeting chronic conditions. Medtronic is collaborating with IBM to deliver new, highly personalized care management solutions for people with diabetes.

The relationships are nonexclusive, and IBM hopes to add many more companies to the platform.
