HP unveiled the first product following its acquisition of search and analytics specialist Autonomy, called "Next Generation Information Platform".
Branded as part of HP's Information Optimization portfolio, "Next Generation Information Platform" helps businesses make sense of unstructured data or "human information", found in video, audio, e-mail and social media, as well as structured data (data that has been stored in a relational database). Unstructured data accounts for more than 85 percent of the world's data, according to HP.
The product combines IDOL (Intelligent Data Operating Layer) information processing technology from Autonomy with a high-performance real-time analytics engine from Vertica, another HP-owned company.
"Today, organisations leverage just five per cent of their information," said Sanjay Aurora, vice president, Asia-Pacific & Japan, Autonomy.
A Coleman Parkes Research study conducted on behalf of HP reveals that one out of three executives in the Asia Pacific and Japan region indicated that more than half of the information within their organisation remains unconnected, undiscovered and unusable.
One out of two executives surveyed indicated that their organisation lacks an effective information strategy that cuts across organisational silos, technologies and strategic functions. In addition, only one percent of surveyed executives said their organisations can deliver the right information at the right time to support the right business outcomes 100 percent of the time.
Autonomy's IDOL server can index unstructured data within an enterprise, providing users with a search-based interface. Meanwhile, the Vertica Analytics Platform is a data warehouse software for storing and analysing structured data.
One user scenario for "Next Generation Information Platform" is in corporate litigation cases where data needs to be drawn from phone calls, e-mails and even videos from within an organisation, said Aurora.
Also launched under Information Optimization portfolio is HP IT Performance Suite, an enterprise performance platform.
The HP IT Performance Suite with VP of Operations Edition contains more than 50 out-of-the-box key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive performance measurement, as well as automation, delivery and monitoring of services, and HP Business Service Management (BSM) 9.1 software, which helps anticipate IT incidents, and analyse and remediate potential issues.
BSM can help IT teams better understand the business impact of issues, like for instance a downed server, said Matt Bertram, chief technologist, HP Software APJ.
Other tools include VP of Applications Edition benchmarks performance data against more than 60 out-of-the-box KPIs and uses HP Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) software to optimise application development.
"By improving visibility for the development, testing, and delivery teams into the development lifecycle, ALM can help trim some 45 per cent in time taken to produce applications," said Bertram.
