How Malaysia fits into Dyn's APAC expansion: interview

Following Dyn's Asia Pacific announcement, Computerworld invited the Australian internet performance firm's Asia Pacific MD Martin Ryan to offer a little more backstory.

Sydney-headquartered internet performance company Dyn offers its customers intelligence into internet conditions. For example, it was Dyn's intelligence that first discovered North Korea's internet issues following the Sony Hack.

Speaking to Computerworld Malaysia, Dyn Asia Pacific's managing director Martin Ryan said the company's recent decision to expand into Asia Pacific includes the release of its Dyn Internet Intelligence [DII], a cloud-based solution that provides real-time visibility into critical internet connectivity.

The grid includes geolocation analysis and internet connectivity mapping to provide enterprises with real-time insights, he says. "We're excited to be growing into Asia Pacific and to be able to offer local support for products such as Dyn Internet Intelligence to our customers. If customers can't connect with a company's services or the experience is poor, it means lost revenue and a damaged reputation."

"Dyn Internet Intelligence uses a network of hundreds of sensors distributed around the world and custom sensors in your hybrid cloud infrastructure to collect, analyse and correlate over a billion routing, internet availability and performance data points per day. Service provider and IP transit routes are monitored to detect connectivity and customer experience issues in any region, which could be caused by anything from routing errors or equipment failures to traffic spikes or even natural disasters," Ryan said. "Enterprises also gain a comprehensive view of Internet events which allows them to isolate problems existing outside their data centres and enterprise networks."

What factors are driving your expansion plans in Asia?

Internet Performance is driven by proximity to the end-users. More than 40 percent of global Internet users are now based in Asia Pacific, according to a report by ComScore, a digital analytics company.

Asia Pacific is home to some of the most innovative and fastest growing companies in the world. In fact, seven of the Alexa Top 25 websites are headquartered in the Asia Pacific region. Dyn already has more than 13 percent of its customers, both businesses and consumers, in the region. We estimate that our Asia Pacific business will double in size in the next 18 months, now that we have local presence and support for our products and services in the region.

What is your take on Malaysia's economic outlook in the next 18-24 months and where does Dyn fit into this scenario?

We expect Malaysian businesses of all types are looking to the internet to expand their opportunities internally, within the Asia Pacific region, and across the world, Dyn can help local and international companies respond to that growth as we already have infrastructure within the region connected to our global network. This will assist Malaysian organisations provide improved user experience to customers anywhere in the world resulting in improved business outcomes.
