DBS Bank leverages Pivotal to innovate at start-up speed

The Singapore bank is running cloud native applications on Pivotal Cloud Foundry in hopes of accelerating innovation.

Singapore's DBS Bank has announced that it will be running cloud native applications on Pivotal Cloud Foundry.

According to the bank, the built-in automation of Pivotal's cloud platform allows it to focus on delivering differentiated value, instead of being caught up with systems management and IT resource procurement. This means that DBS will be able to quickly deliver services, as well as build and update next-generation applications in order to deliver a better banking experience to users.

As a start, DBS will use Pivotal's cloud platform to build next-generation credit risk management systems and funds transfer systems for the bank.

Besides the cloud platform, Pivotal will provide DBS' application development team with Pivotal Lab's software development services.

"Like many traditional industries, the banking sector is being disrupted by agile start-ups and fintech companies that are delivering a differentiated experience to customers. To compete effectively against these new entrants, we must have the ability to be responsive to customers. Pivotal Cloud Foundry gives us the software platform to think and act like a technology company and innovate at start-up speeds," said Dave Gledhill, Head of Group Technology Operations at DBS.
