Polycom expanded its ongoing partnership with Microsoft to include the new Polycom CX8000 room system, integrating an HD video conferencing system with Microsoft Lync. The Polycom CX8000 solution also includes presence, contact search, instant messaging, HD audio, virtual white boarding, touch display-powered presentations, application sharing, and shared document editing.
Polycom also plans to offer the Polycom® CX5100 Unified Conference Station, upon completion of qualification, as an optional feature for the Polycom CX8000. The Polycom CX5100 system features a 360-degree, panoramic 1080p HD video collaboration camera and phone combination that delivers a center-of-the-table experience and along with HD Voice. The Polycom CX8000 room system for Microsoft Lync is available for order today in select countries and will ship in March 2014.
Giovanni Mezgec, General Manager of Lync Product Marketing for Microsoft, commented in his statement on the latest integrated product saying, "We have long worked with Polycom to ensure our solutions are interoperable and we're delighted to add Polycom CX8000 for Microsoft Lync video system to the portfolio. Together we provide reliable unified communications and collaboration because Polycom shares our commitment to providing the highest quality products and superior customer support."
In other product news, snom launched its latest IP phone, the snom 715. Designed as an entry-level phone for enterprise customers, it includes a dual port Gigabit Ethernet switch. The phone offers wideband HD audio and four SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) lines, a backlit LCD display, five programmable function keys and it is Wi-Fi capable. The 715 is also in testing for Microsoft Lync certification.
Mike Storella, VP Americas of snom technology commented in a statement, saying, "This is an IP desktop phone for businesses with big needs but small budgets. Gigabit Ethernet is typically a hallmark of more expensive phones, but we are delivering that capability at $139 (MSRP)."
Other phones in snom's 7xx series portfolio include the 710, 720 and 760, which feature a range of capabilities and price points.
