Austrian court dismisses class action suit against Facebook

An Austrian court has dismissed a class action suit concerning Facebook's privacy policy, saying it has no jurisdiction over the case.

Jurisdiction also plays a crucial role in investigations of several national European data protection authorities into whether Facebook's privacy policy violates the law. National data protection authorities feel they should have jurisdiction over companies offering online services in their countries. Facebook though maintains it is regulated by the Irish Data Protection Commissioner which oversees its compliance with the EU Data Protection Directive as implemented under Irish law.
