Companies will continue to rely on sensors, real-time communication and M2M communication to improve productivity and enhance processes. There will be greater integration of sensors with databases and other technologies that can provide new and innovative offerings to customers.
For instance, in the area of healthcare, sensors and wireless networks can help manage a patient's visit. RFID devices can track patients' movements in real-time and allocate patient appointments automatically.
This improves the flow and experience of a patient's visit to the hospital. The real-time status of beds can be tracked to enable effective bed management and speedy allocation of hospital beds. Medical staff can also be tracked to monitor their behaviour for infection control or workflow optimisation purposes.
With the flood of sensor data from M2M communication, there will be a corresponding increase in demand for analytics solutions to track and understand the information. Information will have to be correlated with other events and data and analysed in real-time to meet the opportunities and threats in today's business environments.
