Addressing the FSI solutions space in Asia: Intellect interview

In conversation with Computerworld: Intellect Design Arena's Raj Ganesarajah on the adoption of internet banking, risk management and customer analytics in Asia.

To take a pulse check of the financial services solutions (FSI) space in Asia and Malaysia, Computerworld Malaysia recently spent some time in conversation with Raj Ganesarajah, country head for digital and real-time financial services firm Intellect Design Arena (Intellect) in Malaysia.

MSC [Multimedia Supercorridor] status company Intellect, which is a subsidiary of an Indian company, recently announced a digital transformation partnership with Hong Leong Bank (HLLB) in Malaysia to tackle wholesale banking services following the digitalising the bank's personal financial services.

Raj Ganesarajah has more than 25 years' experience in the financial services solutions space and has played a key role in the adoption of internet banking, risk management and customer analytics initiatives in Malaysia and the region.

Could you start with an introduction of Intellect Design Arena, and what it offers to the Asian FSI market?

We have been operating in Malaysia since 2006, initially registered as Polaris Software Lab and we attained MSC status in 2009.

Earlier this year, in line with our corporate direction, we registered Intellect Design Arena to spearhead our activities in Malaysia. This is a full blown mission critical sales, services and support centre in Malaysia.

Globally, we serve more than 200 banks as our clients and are intimately involved in their provision of cutting edge financial services. We possess one of the largest Intellectual Properties (IP) in the industry with solutions ranging from end to end retail to corporate banking applications.

Over the last 24 months, there has been a serious uptake in our digital enablement solutions namely Retail Banking Exchange (RBX) and our Corporate Banking Exchange (CBX) product suites. This creates breakthrough innovation and simplicity in the banks providing their services in a nimble and responsive way to their clients may it be in applying for retail product and services (debit and credit cards, personal loans, car loans, housing loans etc.) and high levels of automation and speed in corporate financial services (local and international remittances, corporate cash management, supply chain financing, forex and liquidity management).  We support these ready-made applications with our strong industrial grade security and integration layer which we call CANVAS Technology Platform to seamlessly work with our client's existing investments in core banking and processing systems.

These products are considered best in class and have won multiple industry awards including the 3 of the prestigious Asian Banker awards in Dubai recently which includes one award that we are especially proud of which is the one for 'Best Multi Channel Project Delivery' in 2015.

We have been serving our global clients in Malaysia for a number of years now, and with the incorporation of Intellect Design Arena, we are able to bring these capabilities to local banks. This is reflected by a number of key wins with local banks in Malaysia over the past couple of months.
