Actuate Corporation, the company behind the BIRT (Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools) open source project has acquired privately owned Quiterian S.L., Actuate announced on 23 October.
Quiterian, a software company that focuses on visual data mining, social media analytics and predictive analytics, will have its Quiterian Analytics product merged with ActuateOne to form BIRT Analytics, the statement said.
Through the new product, Actuate claims enterprises will get more value from more data, including SalesForce.com and unstructured Big Data sources such as Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Ads, Google Analytics and Experian Cheetahmail.
Staff from Quiterian will join Actuate's existing employee base effective immediately. This includes Quiterian founder and CEO Josep Arroyo, who will take on the new role of vice president for BIRT Analytics.
"We're excited to join the Actuate team and ready to show the world what Quiterian and BIRT Analytics can do," said Arroyo.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed at time of publishing.
