FBM Asia and IDC Asia Pacific strike historic partnership

F.Y. Teng | March 27, 2012
The region's leading media and research companies are all set to run conference and awards programmes that meet the needs of every IT leader in every geography from every sector/industry.

The region's leading enterprise IT media company, Fairfax Business Media Asia (FBM Asia), and IDC Asia Pacific (IDC AP), announced today have launched a strategic partnership that will allow them to better serve the needs of the region's top ICT executives through a series of surveys, articles and interviews all culminating in an industry event.
The CIO Summit 2012 will first be held in Singapore in August, and subsequently in Malaysia in September, before it makes its way elsewhere across the region.

Each conference will host a programme specially designed to meet the information and professional networking needs of the host country's most progressive and forward-thinking CIOs in name and/or in function.

To ensure these needs are fulfilled, the agenda and theme of each CIO Summit will be drawn up in close consultation with a panel of Asia's leading enterprise IT leaders assembled by FBM Asia and IDC AP. The members of this select panel of advisors, who will be named in the coming weeks, will ultimately be the ones deciding on the content mix of each edition of the CIO Summit.

As part of the partnership, IDC AP will also be working with FBM Asia on the newly expanded IT Excellence Awards (ITX), an annual recognition programme honouring the enterprise IT leaders who have made the greatest strategic and operational contributions to their respective business organisations.

"This partnership blends the best of two worlds-the unrivalled reach of our media with the insight of research-as they work in unison to empower the business and IT leaders of our time," said FBM Asia Regional Manager, Mark Hobson. "Both IDC and Fairfax are leaders in their field, we complement each other and by working together we will create the largest and best attended CIO events in the region."

"For IDC this partnership is more than just an 'event'. We've long been committed to providing the senior ICT executive a number of platforms for sharing ideas, advisory services to better assist them in their jobs, as well as establishing a peer-to-peer community via our InTEP programme. This joint effort is really about extending that commitment and giving CIOs a voice in how information that affects them is exchanged and researched. In short it's a programme for CIO's by CIOs," said Eva Au, Managing Director, IDC Asia Pacific.

SUPERIOR PROGRAMMING

The CIO Summit is hardwired to meet the various requirements of every information executive on the planet. FBM Asia and IDC AP have assembled some of the leading luminaries of the CxO community to form an advisory panel that drives the development of themes and content for every sector in every geography.

"Having this panel of advisors makes certain we don't put out a generic show that superficially touches on the same old 'issues' that just about almost every other so-called 'CIO event' out there does, but really serves as a platform for marketers from IT vendors hawking their wares on stage," said Hobson of FBM Asia.

The key sectors/industries-including the public sector, banking and financial services, transport and logistics, wholesale trade and retail, oil and gas, as well as manufacturing-will be given proportional representation on the panel. Therefore, the issues and points of concern for enterprise IT leaders in those sectors will be reflected and addressed.

Additional insight will be gleaned from IDC's annual C-suite Barometer survey to help validate and drive key themes and topics based on levels of importance to not only the CIO, but also to key stakeholders across the enterprise.

More information, including a full agenda and speaker lineup, will be available in the coming weeks.

BRAND NEW ITX

Entering its 10th year in 2012, the IT Excellence Awards (ITX) programme, first rolled out in 2003 by MIS Asia-FBM Asia's flagship media property for IT leaders-will see a significant rise in its judging standards and boost in prestige from IDC AP's direct participation.

To date, the ITX has handed out awards to practitioners at the peak of performance delivering value to their respective organisations in the following areas: change management, IT governance, security and risk management, business enablement, knowledge management, and bottom line management. In addition to providing representation, and by extension its expert insights, on the panel of judges, IDC AP will be working alongside FBM Asia in canvassing and interviewing strong nominees for the awards. This is expected to drive up both the total number and quality of nominations filed.

ITX 2012 sees the introduction of a new category-Emerging Technologies-that specifically seeks to reward bold deployment by early adopters of nascent or new technologies that have delivered top dollar returns. When used in conjunction with the findings from IDC's C-Suite Barometer, FBM and IDC are able to bring to the market the most comprehensive survey currently available for the senior ICT executive and his team. FBM Asia and IDC AP will identify and shortlist the key technologies and models of computing and information service delivery ahead of the nomination period, and will together seek out live deployments in those areas in that time. Through a series of interviews and further questions, category award winners will be chosen.

"This award not only acknowledges the individual contribution of the CIO while applauding the management team for having the foresight to go where few have gone before, it also calls out the judicious use of resources across the entire enterprise as well as rewards the contribution of the entire IS/IT team in delivering the most effective technology and information delivery models to their business users. The combined efforts of IDC and FBM have produced a truly unique award," said Au of IDC AP.

The brand new ITX 2012 call for nominations will begin within the month.
