On the question of application development, the experienced IT executives highlighted that vendors were helpful in bringing the right expertise to assist in the project, with designing coming from in-house experts, and coding done externally. Some claimed that the fragmented Android platform posed some challenge in app development, while others mentioned the closed iOS platform from Apple did not offer enough flexibility for customisation. The imminent arrival of Windows 8 might answer some of these challenges but how popular it would be as a mainstream platform remained uncertain.
In closing, Mortensen urged the attendees to look at embracing enterprise mobility as the trends clearly showed the benefits it could bring. Ultimately, cost considerations must be balanced with the advantages it could bring, and unless one's business model remained unchanged, there was no help from being more mobile and more agile by adapting new technologies.
