Cloud and mobility are likely to drive the majority of technology spending in the coming months, according to Ho Chye Soon, general manager, commercial business, Dell Singapore. He shares with Computerworld Singapore his organisation's performance in 2011 and what to expect in the coming months.
1) How has 2011 been for you?
2011 has been a great year for both Dell as well as the technology industry. Our strong emphasis on transforming from a hardware vendor to a solutions provider has yielded positive results. We've expanded our portfolio of products, services and solutions to cater to the growing needs of our customers, through both investments in R&D, as well as strategic acquisitions. On the commercial front, we have continued to emphasise our innovative, end-to-end approach. We opened South Asia's first Solution Center in Singapore in July on the back of our global US$1 billion services investment announcement. We also made 11 strategic acquisitions aimed at helping customers do more in the Virtual Era in the last 24 months, and are reaping the benefits of those investments, whether it's SecureWorks, Force 10, Compellent or KACE.
Storage has been at the forefront for us. Our storage technology and solutions are key elements of the company's broader strategy to penetrate deeply into the mid to large enterprise space. Our recently-introduced Compellent portfolio is a key milestone addition to Dell's Fluid Data solutions portfolio. The focus is on helping customers to more effectively manage their growing deluge of data through automation and achieving greater IT efficiency and agility.
2011 has also seen our strongest-ever consumer portfolio in Dell's history. We have introduced our thin and powerful portfolio this year, beginning with the XPS 15z. The line was extended with the introduction of our Inspiron 13z and 14z, XPS 14z, and we have also catered for our small business customers with the launch of the Vostro V131. Dell now offers the most significant and comprehensive line-up of Thin and Powerful solutions among any PC manufacturer in the world. Earlier this year, we've also introduced an addition to the well-loved Alienware family, namely the M14x. Plus, we carried out the most significant refresh in years for the M11x and M17x versions, which have likewise blown our customers away.
The essence of 2011 has been our customers - everything we do stems from listening to what our customers are staying they want or need. Placing our customers at the forefront of everything we do is reaping its rewards and we will be carrying this mantra forward into the New Year.
