Presenter Yaarit Silverstone, managing director, talent and organisation performance practice, Accenture, highlighted the importance of understand the Generation Y workforce, as this age group will form the bulk of the workforce in the near future when the baby boomers retire.
With the ongoing war for hiring talents, companies need to tailor their human resource management programmes for the Generation Y, according to Silverstone.
For instance, when engaging and retaining this age group, "do not be afraid to give feedback, positive or negative. Make their work valid," she said.
Companies also should provide flexible working hours and locations to them. Silverstone suggested creating customised career paths that give a sense of control, progress and future. And always "engage in dialogue with the generation, both online and offline." Providing access to newest technology help attract and retain too, she said.
Indeed, new technological forces are changing the productivity, communication and collaboration, said Doug Farber, managing director, Asia Pacific, Google. "The future of work today is centred on cloud computing and mobility," he said. The powerful mobile devices allow access to information anywhere and anytime, and cloud computing now allows real time collaboration making distances and locations irrelevant.
