The easily transferable framework

F.Y. Teng | April 11, 2012
Reworking IT governance at the National Library Board Singapore and seeing it work for the rest of the organisation's operations.

That again stresses the importance of the NLB IT Governance Framework not just to Chan's IT setup, processes and organisation, but to the Board's operational future. "This framework will necessarily be a living framework that must be continually updated and improved upon to ensure that the NLB's IT-enabled business stays relevant and well governed to deal with the uncertainties and challenges of the future," he says.

Chan believes that the NLB's experience with the new IT Governance Framework extends beyond the confines of IT. "It is important to note that, although the IT Governance Framework was developed with IT in mind, the spirit, intent and principles behind the framework transcend IT. As a result, the identification of the need to enhance certain practices and disciplines inevitably led to the conclusion that these practices and disciplines should govern the business as a whole, not merely IT," says Chan, just as he begins to offer up an example, or two. "The enhancement of the business case management process and the ongoing study on how to develop the Val NLB program clearly illustrate this fact."
