The need for constant IT upgrades

Bernard Chew of NTUC FairPrice believes that constant improvements to the company's IT systems is key to ensuring that the company remains the leading retailer in Singapore.

What are the key traits that a CIO should have in order to thrive in today's world?
One should read — voraciously — from diverse sources, to be cued in to the megatrends affecting the industry, technology and consumers. Innovations pioneered in mature markets like the US and in Europe eventually find their way to other markets like Singapore as do societal changes and shopping behaviour. Getting a heads-up and adapting to oncoming changes before the competition is an advantage.

It's the same in other industries. CIOs need to know the business as well as their business colleagues.
