"A lot of our credibility as a supplier is the fact that we can build and operate very large file systems at 100 per cent availability. It's a pedigree that almost no one else has," he says in response to startups foraying into the financial sector.His advice for young IT professionals?.
"Keep an eye on the front runners. Stay ahead of the curve as much as possible, but then translate that back into what has business benefit for your business, rather than being overly excited about the technology.
"Working out what's appropriate and what's not appropriate for your company, as opposed to what all of the vendors and all of the industry are saying, is a learned skill," he says. "As a young IT professional, expect to get burned by that a couple of times and be willing to learn from it."
