Secretaries, office support, personal and administrative assistants are officially Singapore's most in demand employees this year, according to a survey released by human resources group, Manpower Singapore today.
The 8th annual talent-shortage survey included nearly 40,000 employers in 42 countries and territories in the first quarter of the year.
It has found that almost half of employers (47 percent) in Singapore are experiencing difficulty finding staff with the right skills.
This is above the global average of talent shortages at 35 percent, the highest since before the global economic crisis.
In a bid to address talent acquisition challenges, 54 percent of Singaporean employers surveyed said that a relook at their work models is necessary while 41 percent pointed to a focus on improving their talent pipeline.
Linda Teo, country manager of Manpower Singapore, said the survey results show that employers in Singapore are increasingly taking measures to mitigate the business effects in a talent scarce environment.
Nevertheless, the survey also showed that 22 percent of employers worldwide are not changing course to identify new ways to address talent shortages despite its business impacts.
In the Asia Pacific region, sales representatives followed by engineers and technicians are the hardest jobs to fill.
Meanwhile, Japan faces the gravest state in finding right talent at 85 percent, followed by India and Hong Kong at 61 and 58 percent respectively. China appears to have the least difficulty at 35 percent.
At a global level, the survey revealed the endemic talent shortages worldwide with Brazil at 68 percent and Turkey at 58 percent. Employers in Ireland and Spain (3 percent) are the least likely to face shortages.
Among the roles most difficult to fill worldwide are skilled trades workers, engineers and sales representatives.
