Singapore’s workforce plagued with Mondayitis sufferers

Beat the Monday blues (temporarily) by drinking coffee, consuming junk food, chatting with colleagues, and/or going through your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram newsfeeds.

Do you feel anxious, lethargic and generally unhappy on Mondays? You are not alone, according to jobsDB Singapore's latest survey that polled 4,300 Singapore workers and 379 employers between 4 to 13 September 2013.

Mondayitis, or commonly known as Monday blues, is a recurring condition that causes sufferers to find it tough to get out of bed, or feel generally unproductive on Mondays from 7am to around 11.30am.This is probably why 72 percent of the employers surveyed reported that their employees are commonly late for work on Monday mornings. Seventy percent of the employers also said that they receive more medical certificates on a Monday than other days of the week.

With Mondayitis, it can be tough to be productive — 44 percent of the workers said Monday is their least productive day. To temporarily overcome Mondayitis, sufferers usually drink coffee (55 percent), chat with colleagues (48 percent), surf social networking sites (27 percent) and consume junk food (21 percent).
