RP's industry collaborations to groom students to be industry-ready

Nurdianah Md Nur | Jan. 8, 2015
The polytechnic is partnering KTPH, RSA, Palo Alto Networks, Ixia, LTA, SMRT Corporation and SBS Transit to equip students with the right skills.

Republic Polytechnic (RP) has partnered Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) to launch a polytechnic teaching dispensary that aims to provide pharmaceutical students with realistic hands-on training.

According to a joint statement, the RP-KTPH teaching dispensary will house over 600 types of drugs and simulate a real hospital pharmacy. These will allow students to acquire clinical knowledge and dispensing skills before proceeding for their internships.

" This collaborative effort will ensure that students have the industry experience to hit the ground running," said Dr Doreen Tan, KTPH's head of department for Pharmacy. " This will result in a magnified impact on patients' safe use of medications when students eventually join the healthcare industry."

The RP-KTPH teaching dispensary was launched during RP's open house event, which was graced by Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Health & Ministry of Transport, Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, on 8 January 2015.

Other industry collaborations

RP also signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with leading local and international industry partners during the open house.

The collaboration with RSA, Palo Alto Networks and Ixia will allow students from RP's Diploma in Infocomm Security Management to benefit from an up-to-date curriculum and joint programmes. Programmes include seminars, workshops, industry final-year projects and internships.

The MOUs between RP and Singapore's Land Transport Authority, SMRT Corporation and SBS Transit will enable students from the Diploma in Engineering Systems and Management to specialise in either urban transport solutions or intelligent systems. Curriculums will also be updated to be more industry-focused to ensure that students are industry-ready immediately upon graduation.
