In September 2015, Philippines posted a 3-percent year-over-year growth in online hiring activities related to IT, Telecom/ISP and BPO/ITES, according to data from the latest Monster Employment Index (MEI).
This shows a marginal increase of 1 percentage point from a 2-percent growth, achieved in August.
The MEI provides an analysis of monthly job postings of employers and shows their online recruitment activity.
By comparison, Singapore and Malaysia both showed negative year-over-year growth rate for the month of September with -2 percent and -16 percent, respectively.
"As the rest of the markets in Southeast Asia struggle to see growth in online hiring in the IT sectors, the Philippines is rapidly gaining growth momentum and is well on track to hit its job generation goals in the wider IT/ BPO industry," said Sanjay Modi, Managing Director of online job portal Monster.com (India, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong).
The MEI report also named IT and Telecom/ISP sectors as the top growth industries in the Philippines with a year-over-year growth rate of 16 percent.
The online hiring for software, hardware, and telecom sector has still not shown positive growth in three countries for the month of September: Singapore with -10 percent, Philippines with -11 percent while Malaysia with -35 percent.
Moreover, the demand for jobs on this sector in the Philippines will likely increase in the coming months "as foreign firms seek to form partnerships with local firms," Modi added.
