Online hiring for the IT, telecommunications, and business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in the Philippines recorded a 23 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth between May 2016 and May 2017.
The growth is also a 3 percentage point increase from the 20 percent YoY growth from last April to this April.
This is according to the latest data from the Monster Employment Index (MEI), a monthly analysis of online job hiring activity of employers in the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.
Online hiring for software, hardware, and telecom jobs in the country has also doubled from 5 percent YoY growth between April 2016 and April 2017 to 10 percent YoY growth from last May to May this year. This sector is also one of the top growth occupations for the month of May this year, along with customer service and purchase/logistics/supply chain.
Similarly, Singapore registered a 13 percent YoY growth for online hiring of software, hardware, and telecom professionals between May 2016 and May 2017. However, online hiring activity for that sector in Malaysia saw a dip of 4 percent YoY for the same period, representing a 9 percentage point decrease from 5 percent YoY growth from April 2016 and April 2017.
As for online recruitment of IT, telecommunications, and BPO professionals between May 2016 and May 2017, both Singapore and Malaysia experienced a 13 percent YoY growth and 9 percent YoY increment, respectively.
Commenting on the findings, Sanjay Modi, managing director of online job portal Monster.com in Asia Pacific (APAC) and Middle East, said: "Despite a positive hiring outlook, there is a growing sense of job insecurity amongst tech professionals. This is particularly evident in the IT/ITES industry, where automation and changing business models have left most professionals distressing about redundancy. No doubt this has put the spotlight on upskilling."
Modi also highlighted the importance of promoting innovation in order to acquire talents.
"While some traditional jobs in this sector may cease to exist, delivery, innovation and design will grow faster than conventional executive jobs, as companies will pivot even more around customer expectations. Having said that, it will be key for talent acquisition leaders across organisations to lead by example and promote a strong culture of learning, innovation and agility," he concluded.
