China's Huawei has partnered with Singapore's Institute of Technical Education (ITE) to launch the Broadband Technology and Services Training Centre, the leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider announced today.
The training centre is Singapore's first Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) training centre and it will provide hands-on laboratory and proficiency training to cultivate talent and support Singapore's advanced ICT industry, Huawei's spokesperson said in a statement.
ITE is a principal provider of career and technical education and key developer of national occupational skills certification and standards to enhance Singapore's workforce competitiveness.
The ITE-Huawei partnership will equip students in the Broadband Technology and Services module with hands-on skills and knowledge on the latest GPON technology-a technology that will redefine the future of communications globally.
GPON is the underlying core technology that is being deployed nationwide for Singapore's NGNBN infrastructure.
"The Broadband Technology and Services Training Centre will provide students from the Nitec in Electronics (Broadband Technology & Services) course with a comprehensive, in-house facility to pursue professional development and training. These students will receive the Huawei GPON technician training and certification. This is especially advantageous to our graduates, as they will now possess additional certification that is not only relevant, but highly regarded by the industry as well," said Bruce Poh, Director & CEO of Institute of Technical Education.
The centre will be dedicated to in-depth GPON technology training for staff and students specialising in optical and broadband networks.
Every year, Huawei will select outstanding students to embark on the Huawei Work Experience Programme, where they get to visit Huawei's Shenzhen headquarters to obtain cross-cultural work exposure and hands-on work experience.
ITE staff will also be given opportunities to be trained and engaged in industrial projects to increase industry exposure and relevance.
